"A Scout's-Eye View of the Game" Featured at Pacers.com

Pacers.com has posted a link to my two part series "A Scout's-Eye View of the Game." In case you missed it the first time around, these articles look at NBA scouting from the perspective of Kevin Mackey, a Pacers scout who also has extensive coaching experience in college basketball and various pro basketball minor leagues, where he coached many future NBA players, including Darrell Armstrong, Mark Blount, Michael Curry and Adrian Griffin. Hey David,

According to www.philly.com, a group which includes Julius Erving (and Will Smith) is looking to buy the 76ers. What do you think of that?

I saw that story. Erving made it clear after he retired that he had no interest in coaching but that the right management/ownership opportunity might intrigue him. He served as an exec with Orlando a few years ago. Based on how much an NBA team costs, he likely would not be putting up most of the funds to buy the 76ers, but perhaps he could become the public face of the franchise and operate in a role similar to that of Larry Bird, Jerry West and Elgin Baylor. I would like to see how Erving would go about putting a team together.
