The Statistical Profile of a Title Team

NBCSports.com has just published "The Statistical Profile of a Title Team," my examination of some of the key statistical categories in which most of the past 17 NBA champions have excelled. Hall of Fame Coach and ESPN analyst Hubie Brown always stresses the importance of point differential, while Cleveland Cavaliers Assistant Coach Hank Egan (a member of Gregg Popovich's staff when the San Antonio Spurs won the 1999 title) emphasizes defensive field goal percentage. Check out the article to see how closely these statistics correlate with winning championships:

I saw your article at NBCsports.com about steals and blocks. You didn't mention 200-200 seasons. Isn't Hakeem the only one?

Yes, Hakeem is the only 200-200 player. Julius Erving came close in 1973-74 with the New York Nets in the ABA (190 steals, 204 blocked shots)
